As an avid
book lover, I’m always on the hunt for the next best read and the next
best place to find those reads. There’s something so nostalgic about bookstores and libraries. Below, I’ve included some of my favorite places for reading, browsing and buying books.
Barnes & Noble The last of the brick-and-mortar
chain bookstores, Barnes & Noble is more than a place where books are sold.
Here, you can experience everything books are supposed to represent: a space
for imagination and creativity to flow freely. In addition to its online
presence (online retail store, mobile app, and Nook e-books), the store hosts a
plethora of events, including celebrity book signings, story time sessions and
other activities for children, summer game nights, and much more. Barnes & Noble
also sells music, movies, toys, games and electronics, school and art supplies,
devices, as well as books and e-books. It’s a great place to spend a couple
hours reading and stocking up on old and new favorites.
LA Public Library I chose the Los Angeles Public
Library because I think it is one of the more accessible libraries
(location-wise) to LA residents. However, I believe all local public libraries
are wonderful and possess their own unique charms. The LA Public Library is
located in a grand building and is overflowing with pieces of literature. The
building is intricately designed with impeccable detail in its sculptures and
painted ceilings. It is as much a place to learn and read as it is a place to
admire art and architecture. Different departments are housed over several
floors and there is no shortage of books to find. It is also centrally located
in Downtown, LA, so you can venture out and explore the city.
The Last Bookstore My final pick is a book shop (also in
Downtown, LA) that is whimsical and fun. The Last Bookstore sells books and
music but also features art and uses actual books in the construction of their
designs and displays. Here you will find endless mazes of books over two
stories. You can browse for books, take in the fantastical displays, and find a
photo-op at almost every corner. As inconspicuous as the exterior is, don’t let
that fool you into thinking it’s just an average bookstore. It’s not. It’s
where you can find books as well as feel inspired by all of the unique and
artistic elements all around you.
