Remodeling can be stressful and expensive. I've got three quick and easy tips to help you tackle this transformation.
Paint A fresh coat of paint can bring life back to
any room in your home. For some
inspiration on selecting a color, search online or visit your local hardware store for swatches. Choose one color in a neutral, dark, pastel or bright shade for
an all-over refresh. Choose two colors to create a trendy accent wall. Next, grab some painting supplies (paint,
brushes, tape, tray, etc) and get to work. Hiring a professional is an option, but it’s more affordable to DIY. You could even invite
a few friends over and make it a painting party. For step-by-step instructions, browse YouTube for how-to videos. Painting can
really change the look and feel of any room in your house, and because it’s a
quick and inexpensive fix, you can use this remodel hack as often as you’d like.
Accents Think about how accessories such as watches,
shoes and sunglasses can help dress up (or dress down) an outfit. The same principle applies to using accent
pieces to help spruce up a home. Add decorative pillows in pops of color or a textured throw blanket to a couch or bed. Arrange fresh or faux flowers
to brighten up a space. Stack books or
magazines on a coffee or dining table. Place candles in your favorite scents on a mantle. Hang picture frames of different colors
and sizes to create a collage of memories. Select items of varying height and in pairs or odd numbers to add dimension. Using decorative and
functional pieces in a variety of colors, sizes and textures as accents will customize any room
in your home to suit your aesthetic.
Rearrange and Re-purpose Instead of buying new furniture
to reinvent your space, try rearranging and re-purposing the furniture already in your home. Small changes like moving an ottoman or floor lamp,
or adding art to the walls, can really change the look and feel of a space. Bring in pieces from other rooms (plants,
chairs, a rug, end tables, etc) to mix things up. If those pieces don’t match with the
room’s existing furniture, re-purpose them - add slip covers to sofas or chairs, switch out lamp shades and window treatments, or reupholster seat cushions. By using furniture you already own, you can transform any room in your home
as often as you want. This is also a
great way to make use of any items that have been sitting in storage.
